Heading for the Healthy Food Highway

This blog is dedicated to all things even remotely related to my adventures as a lifetime picky eater trying to raise kids who are not picky eaters. Don’t get me wrong, I love food. There’s just a long list of foods that must be cooked a specific way or that I plain just don’t like.

And it’s not something I enjoy. My husband can go anywhere and find something that he not only can eat, but that he actually likes. I, on the other hand, frequently leave dinner parties and restaurants with a rumbling ache in my belly due to the lack of “good” food available.

That is not something I want my children to have to deal with. On the other hand, however, I don’t want them to have the portion control issues I have with the foods I do love. Put a pizza in front of me? I might just eat the whole thing. A pumpkin pie? You better keep your hands off of it or you’ll be getting stabbed with my fork. Not good.

Since I’m not a good liar, and I won’t make my kids eat foods I won’t eat or deny them foods that I get, I’m having to find ways to expand my palette, control my portions, and get my family on the “Healthy Food Highway.” It’s important to me, it’s important to our health, and it’s amazingly difficult to do.

So come along for the ride as I (hopefully) dodge potholes, build bridges, and scout out new shortcuts. I hope you enjoy and feel free to drop me emails and comments sharing your own thoughts and experiences along whatever “Food Highway” you’ve chosen to travel.
